Between 1986 and 2001 I wrote an average of two or three by-lined feature articles or major product reviews a month for computer user and computer industry trade publications, including articles on desktop publishing, graphics design software and hardware, computer assisted instruction and management, and database design. In 1994, Addison-Wesley asked me to write what I believe is the only entry-level book on computer-graphics, Learn Desktop Graphics & Design on the PC (1995). I organized and participated in presentations on computer graphics and small-systems computing in New York tradeshows such as Computer Graphics New York and MAC/NY.
As a consultant, I've created and implemented a number of database designs and small-systems and network integrations for businesses, not-for-profit social services agencies, and arts organizations. In February, 1998, I was asked by St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, in New York’s South Bronx (featured on Oprah! and Rosie O'Donnell, and in Jonathan Kozol's best-selling books, Amazing Grace & Ordinary Resurrections, to work with them to build a new, state-of-the-art computer-assisted learning center for six-to-twelve-year-olds. In 2005, I undertook the complete renovation of that facility. As a beta-test site for many products targeted to business and graphics professionals, I have seen many products through the testing phase and into the marketplace, working both with marketing and development staff for these products. I have been interviewed from time to time by major trade publications, and my comments on computer graphics were videotaped for corporate advertising by such firms as NEC.
My academic experience has coupled nicely with what I have learned in the course of consulting in and writing about the computer industry. From Fall 1998 to Spring 1999, I helped introduce the new computer technical support curriculum at The Chubb Institute in Jersey City.
